Find-and-replace "trans" with any descriptor you want and it becomes immediately clear how the issue is transmisogyny and folks not believing that trans girls are girls.

Imagine saying

"Brown haired girls should be able to play in girls sports because they don't have higher testosterone"

That doesn't matter because they are girls!!!

I am not saying there isn't truth in (some) of these discussions. Cis women have gotten away with higher ranges of testosterone and get away with it more than trans women and there is a double standard there, there are fair arguments against sports separation, etc.......

(I do absolutely hate "trans girls don't play sports anyway" argument though. Like... Why do you think that might be...?)

In any case though, making those your /primary/ argument entertains the idea that this is actually about sports and not about degendering and punishing trans girls. It also loses sight of the most important thing: TRANS GIRLS ARE GIRLS!

@Ethanol It seems clear to me at this point that all of the anti-trans nonsense is just "rallying points" which powermongers are using to build an authoritarian base.

They don't care if it's true -- and actually, with right-wing politics, it works better as a rallying-cry if it isn't true but just sounds plausibly like "common sense" to people who don't know any better, because then there's a "us, the good people, vs. them, the bad people trying to destroy us and our kids" which the powermongers can play off.

They think very differently about reality than we do, and that's a problem -- it's basically at the core of "why we can't have nice things".

@woozle I think we share similar sentiments.

Its why I think arguing logic talking points about "why trans women wouldn't actually be that disruptive to women's sports........etc" isn't productive.

Granted, arguing any points at all might not be productive, at least to republicans.

But a lot of these initiatives passed in blue states. I just don't think its helpful to try to reason within left leaning circles on "why" trans sports bans are/aren't needed. Because the root of the issue is right-wingers just don't see trans women as women and they want to hurt and oppress them to further an authoritarian regime. They don't and won't care about testosterone levels or the number of trans girls actually in sports.

The left leaning people who take it in good faith and try to argue specifics aren't helping anything, only validating the argument, and it's why these things are able to pass in areas that otherwise lean for trans rights. It also signals to trans girls that we don't believe them. That's my opinion, at least.
