How much the world pays attention to sub-national elections in the #US is extraordinary.
I get it, but the scale is too much. For example - why are #Japanese I meet so more aware about the #Kansas senate race than the #Taipei #Taiwan mayoral election?
Some of this is me, the strange guy who grew up in Kansas but more closely follows #Taiwanese, #Indonesian, or #Chinese politics.
@ncoca it's because whether we like it or not, US election outcomes do affect many of us, outside of USA.
Yeah, nuclear shield, largest trading partner, willingness to suddenly start foreign wars.. Lots of factors make us care unduly

Good point - it may be true here in comfortable Australia, but it's doubly true in the global South due to both the USA's recent general support for global fascism, and their recent string of regime change efforts.

@ncoca For better or worse (these days, probably worse) folks are acutely aware of how just a handful of enablers in key positions can have a dramatic influence on the rest of the world
Just the other day, a Japanese dude asked me about the Kentucky elections. But I think in his specific case, it was mostly whether his bourbon would be affected
