A number of trans people won elections last night. A lot of anti-trans ballot initiatives also passed. Some very pro-trans Democrats won. Some very anti-trans candidates also won.
Voting Democratic became a signifier of rebuking Trump (and complaining about our generally terrible circumstances) rather than an endorsement of any particular policy or candidate, progressive or otherwise.
The most common mistake Democrats make in this situation is trying to make peace with Republicans and "move on," which completely deflates the "throw the bums out" impulse that got them elected.
The second is thinking there is a coherent Democratic platform that voters are responding to. They're not. They're just mad at Trump. They're definitely not in love with whatever centrist nonsense Democrats are pushing.
Remember, Democrats have been polling badly since Biden was in office.
Right now there's a real good chance national Democrats shoot themselves in the foot electing Schumer and Jeffries to lead Congress, all but guaranteeing more of the same voters just rejected, and end up limping into 2028 with little to show for yesterday's big win. There's also a really good chance the party run the Harris playbook again with someone like Newsom because that's what the leadership and donors want, and it fails spectacularly, again.
That's how elections work in the US. Voters aren't endorsing you, they're lashing out at the other guy.
