the difference between optimism and pessimism is that you have every reason to be pessimistic and no reason to be optimistic. pessimism comes from everywhere, while optimism comes from nowhere. optimism comes from nowhere. do you understand?

@lritter But yeah, optimism takes effort. Doing something takes effort. Happiness takes effort.
Misery and pessimism, on the other hand, takes no effort at all - just a little bit of think, but not too much. It's **comfortable**. It gives you **certainty**. That's why a lot of people choose it.
@lritter No, I don't. Optimism is actually the more rational choice because of how our brains work.
You see, in order to have a purpose in life, you have to get shit done. In order to get shit done, you have to plan. Planing means setting goals. Setting goals mean that you gotta have some understanding of the end result you're working to, and you have to have some understanding that this end result is actually achievable. And that is an optimistic outlook.
Pessimism, on the other hand, is a loser's self-fulfilling prophecy. You can't set your targets when your midnset is "I'll never gonna hit them". You're just not going to work for them, because - what's the point. So nothing gets done, nothing gets delivered, and you're just sitting there revelling in your hollow intellectual victory over your better self.
Fuck that shit, I'd rather expect myself to have some sort or gegree of success and do something - even if I'll actually fail.
Works for other people and groups too.
