i'm gonna hold off on congratulatory speeches until the poll trackers get solid results from all the seats, but so far the news seem to be good, with the democrats taking majorities in both house and senate?
heck, a few months ago the idea of them getting a senate majority was a pipe dream
i am still remembering 2016, when i woke up on a wednesday morning and had my hope in US politics get drained away as more and more results were tabulated
let's hope today is not that type of day
it seems like NPR has called all but 5 senate races, but even without them, democrats have 51 seats and bernie sanders and angus king have 2 more -- looking at the current results, two or three more seats might fall to democrats as well, including peltola in alaska and el-sayed in michigan
the house is not yet fully called, but there are only two seats left until a majority and most of the ones remaining seem to be in the "dems leading" category
in previous years, there's been a lot of moments where a narrow democrat majority resulted in things still not getting done because of a few rogue senators going against the rest of their party -- heck, this also often happens with the republicans too, in fact, that's why "obamacare" is still a thing -- but it seems like the majority the dems about to get is solid enough to avoid this type of stuff
from what i understand, winning the senate also means more ability to investigate the trump administration and its cronies?
