Mirlo Features Update: October 2026
We've been hard at work here at Mirlo on the codebase, trying to make it better. This past month has really let us focus on the work we've been wanting to do all year for our NLNet grant.

Mobile app
We've been focusing heavily on the design of the mobile app, to better reflect our style on the website. The app is so smooth, and it's so much easier to explore and find new music on Mirlo. This is currently our primary listening experience.
Technically we've also implemented OAuth2 which should be good news for anyone building apps with Mirlo (one of which is a point of sale app for people using Mirlo, something we're pretty excited about trialing out).
For artists
We've been making a ton of improvements in how editing and managing your music happens, which means that now you can invite others to manage your artist, whether they're band mates, your manager, or just your friends.
You can now re-arrange tiers on your subscription page to suit your needs.
Social music web
These are fairly technical, but should make our integrations with other platforms easier. We've been working on making Canimus / chorus more available as a feed across the site. We've worked on making ActivityPub notifications deliver better. We've worked on making our content parsing more secure and better handled by other websites.
Self installing Mirlo
We've made it much easier to style and fine-tune a Mirlo server you're hosting. when an admin first opens a new instance, a series of welcome screens covers login, instance name, email and colour. After that, a setup guide walks through system check, payments and spam protection, with a dashboard card and banner for steps not yet done. Admins can also set the instance's contact and support emails, content, logos, splash images, which replace the hardcoded Mirlo addresses. There's now also more control over inviting artists and labels to your server. See the Behind the scenes section for more technical changes to our infrastructure.
We're currently working with three groups to set up their own Mirlo servers and are excited to share more details about each as we move that work forward.

Behind the scenes
We've been consolidating and wrapping up a big migration that simplifies our purchasing flows. This includes changes that support Stripe point of sale things terminals, as well as laying the groundwork for integrating an other payment processor.
We've consolidated how we store files (audio and images) in a much simpler fashion. This was a months long project that is wrapped up and consolidated. Honestly a huge relief for us that this is done haha. Part of this also meant consolidating how we do long running jobs on the server.
Some other things that are significant but there's not that much to say about them:
Upgrading our database manager
We've made it easier for server admin to see whether there are issues with e-mail delivery.
We've been building out a suite of sample user interface actions that make it easier to showcase the platform, as well as to debug and work on design.
We're going to start doing versioned releases of Mirlo, something we now need as others will be running the same software as us.
