Feeding houseplants coffee.. yay/nay?
Hubs constantly pours coffee and tea in our houseplants, they are yet to die.
@MCDuncanLab @ai6yr they like coffee grounds too, as long as they don't stay soggy. The only drawback I see is potentially breeding those coffee-loving flies.
@iris @MCDuncanLab Ha, why did I not think of this a long time ago.
@ai6yr Ambivalent. If you do it right, it might be possible.

@Irisfreundin I throw my coffee ground directly into the garden, and the plants there are quite happy... but houseplants don't have the same amount of soil buffer... so just thinking of pouring water through the grounds and giving them coffee directly 🤪
@ai6yr I pour the rinse water from my coffee machine on the hibiscus plants indoors; they seem to like it.
I spread coffee grounds in the garden, usually mixed with lime (coral algae lime), to prevent the soil from becoming acidic.
@Irisfreundin Thanks! Will try the rinse water on the grounds... We have some sweet potatoes rooting in plain water and I suspect they could use the nitrogen.
@ai6yr I've let the grounds dry overnight and save them to fertilize the blueberry bushes in the back yard. The like the acidity.
