Happy to report that changing my profile picture to something other than a face seems to have stemmed the flow of fake accounts trying to follow me on Pixelfed.
Do with that information as you like.
@qwyllion I've seeing lots of bots that are pretending to be 10/10 baddies that can somehow only find their soulmate on Pixelfed. And yeah, like you pointed out, they seem to be following men with their faces as profile pics. Gonna have to try changing mine too to see if that'll slow it down for me.
@mntyfrsh If you try it, will you let us know how it goes for you?
@qwyllion Two days since changing my profile pic on PF and no bots yet!
@mntyfrsh Thank you so much for helping with data for this experiment!
Is it okay if I look for you over there?
@qwyllion No prob and of course! 😊 You can find me there at @MntyFrsh@pixelfed.social .
@mntyfrsh@mastodon.social @MntyFrsh@pixelfed.social Gotcha! Thanks, again.
I am a blocking machine!
I think they are targeting accounts with faces in the profile picture, so I might change mine temporarily as an experiment.
