Just got a lengthy rant from someone about what a terrible person I am, responding to a post of mine from a YEAR ago in which I mentioned that I used a rideshare service to get to a medical appointment.
@NYSloth those photos had it coming
@mattblaze how very dare you
I don't drive. I do, in fact, sometimes use rideshare services. I am quite possibly a terrible person, but I doubt you have enough information to independently conclude that.
@mattblaze As a fellow non-motorist I resort to the rare taxi. I dislike the exploitive concept of ride-share; so far I haven't needed it. But if I do someday, I'll use it, as should you.
@oclsc One of the problems is that in many areas, the rideshare services have reduced the number of taxis, so rideshare can be the only viable option if you need a ride.
@mattblaze The best part of rideshare services is having a single app that lets you order a ride wherever you go. The taxi companies would do well to develop an app to which they all subscribe.
@mattblaze Wait… I’m apparently way behind. Why are rideshare services considered terrible? I use them often while I travel around. Gonna use one this week in Prague. TWICE. I don’t want to play the bus-train-bus-walk-bus game, in Czech, to get to where I want to go.
@Unabart There are rideshare services that are badly exploitative of their gig-economy drivers, although it's not really clear if that's overall significantly better or worse than it is in traditional taxi services. And it's environmentally worse to use private cars vs. mass transit, but the practicality of mass transit options available to people for particular rides obviously varies quite a bit.
@mattblaze Yeah, I’ve read that Uber is a questionable business in the way they treat their drivers. I get it. At the same time, I can’t always use mass transit and for people to get judgemental about that is simply their problem and not mine. They can go huff and puff and not be my friend. Probably wouldn’t have known they existed otherwise. If I had to avoid every thing everyone else doesn’t like, I wouldn’t get anything done. ✌🏻
Hell, there should be an entire service for medical appointments, ideally sponsored by cities. Especially since a lot of them you're SUPPOSED to have a driver for like colonoscopies and such.
@mattblaze I exclusively hang out with people terrible enough to get a ride to their medical appointment.
Let's start a gang.
@Rob_T_Firefly @mattblaze I'm barred from driving for medical reasons, so I mostly take the bus. Mind if I join your gang anyway ?
@Rob_T_Firefly @mattblaze Now I'm imagining a biker gang rideshare service where you book an appointment and get a motorcycle ride from a large, leather-jacketed guy with a mustache, even if you aren't large or scary-looking yourself.
If you have six friends, you can book seven bikes all at once and go terrorize a mini-mart.
@mattblaze There are some trolls in the machine for sure.
@mattblaze Wait until they find out how you also suck the color out of innocent photographs and don’t even warn people.
