When designing web pages, what's your default approach? (and please stick to the context. I don't need yet another CSS framework discussion ;)
@jwildeboer I am an Old and still haven't really gotten in the habit of using Flexbox (or Grid) yet. I've learned in general how they work (and played lots of Flexbox Froggy in the process, which was genuinely helpful!), but _by default_, my brain still goes for divs with stuff like width and float properties and suchlike. The way we did it back in 2018 or so.
Yes, I need to update my brain. I think I'll probably go for Grid; it looks pretty cool.
@jwildeboer I use both. They also work well together.
@jwildeboer Both. Grid for main page areas + anything else in 2 dimensions. Flex for arranging along 1 axis. Layout determines approach.
In case you want to read a bit more about them, CSS Tricks got you covered:
A COMPLETE CSS FLEXBOX LAYOUT GUIDE https://css-tricks.com/snippets/css/a-guide-to-flexbox/
A COMPLETE CSS GRID LAYOUT GUIDE https://css-tricks.com/complete-guide-css-grid-layout/
@jwildeboer I use flexbox way more than grid, but I try to design vertically as much as possible to keep it simple.
Neither. I mean, I haven't done it in decades ,but:
[1] Write it in the simplest dumbest HTML editor I can find (probably Seamonkey)
[2] Upload flat HTML files.
@jwildeboer Grid for the page layout, flexbox inside components. Grid cuts a lot of wrapper divs once sections need to line up. Curious where the poll lands.
