were you doing web stuff when #CSS border-radius didn't exist?
@hbons Will you be doing polls on Gopher?
@hbons There were just straight corners back then, and kids were being more careful and would not run and hit their heads against them for no reason. Rounded corners is a sign of a degraded society ;-)
@mardy@mastodon rounded corners are for the weak. buy my book!
@hbons There was no CSS yet even. You used imagemap to do funky menus and such. Or Flash.
@hbons The W3C was founded the year I started with web devel/design, CSS was in early draft mode 😄
It was a fun time, but I would not go back to chopping up bitmaps and placing them in tables. At the time I used an Amiga with PPaint and no internet access, had to copy the site to a floppy and visit the library to upload 😄
@hbons In fact this is the reason why I *didn't* do CSS.
@hbons I was doing Web stuff when table layouts and font tags were the norm 🤪
@hbons Thanks for the PTSD!
```
<!--[if IE 5]>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/workaround.css">
<![endif]-->
```
@hbons ...when I started tinkering with websites, CSS wasn't even mentioned! I just checked - the first release was about two years previous, but I guess it wasn't commonplace by then.
Frames, tables, and inline styling were my life. It was all such a goddamned mess.
@hbons
I mean, I just embedded images in tables to make the elements have round borders, but that's really old school ;)
@hbons we put images in tables... and yes, it was horrible :P
