#FollowerPower : For an office team #chat and (internal and external) video call software, kinda replacing Slack and Zoom for an organisation that already uses #Nextcloud for file sharing, editing and other things, which one would you choose?

(Must be #FOSS, explanations as reply welcome.)

@ilumium Galene is fairly painless and funded by @nlnet

Galene videoconference server

Galene is a free and open source self-hosted WebRTC videoconference system (client and server), a self-hosted alternative to Zoom or BigBlueButton

@onepict @ilumium @nlnet I am going to be trying this soon, and I'll report back.

Thank you for the suggestion @onepict, does Galene also integrate the chat component? I am not sure about the advantage of running two different services for chat and video as that forces users to switch app/context when they upgrade a chat to a (video) call.

@ilumium @neil I'm not sure, As I'm not involved with the project.

You could ask @nlnet as they run an instance.

@ilumium @onepict @neil Why not put Jitsi on the list? Galene felt behind Jitsi, the one time I used it.

@whvholst Mostly because I'd have a preference for systems that pack team chat and video call features (incl. for externals) into one. I am not sure what the advantage is of using two different pieces of software for this (and running two self-hosted servers that need to be looked after). 🙈
