Could we decentralize #LiveNation? Allow everybody hosting an event to use their own system but as long as it supports the same protocol, we manage the tickets in any app we choose? And sort all those events as we choose in any calendar and mapping apps we choose.
I could imagine people going out more if it was easy to see all this info in one place and know which of your friends were interested or going etc.
@wjmaggos I'd separate this into three topics: 1. social sharing of events ("here's my event" / "I am going!") 2. open ticketing platform with payments 3. breaking up the LiveNation monopoly.
For 1. ActivityStreams has Invite and Accept activities, and Event objects. The problem has been confusion how to implement this in practice. There's been lots of work to iron out these problems. See Mobilizon and @blog as practical examples. I wrote about this here: fedi.exon.name/2024/12/27/even…
For 2. see @pretix. But the work @benpate has been doing on Emissary to add payment platforms and support musicians is strongly related too. For managing the tickets on your phone, I've heard that Google Pass and Apple Wallet are actually surprisingly open standards, and now Good Enough.
For 3. you're on your own. The USA is a failed state, and LiveNation just one of several petty warlords fighting over the rubble. So the thing to do is concentrate on preventing LiveNation happening in other countries.
