Join The Fediverse — Because the revolution will not be centralised. #TshirtSlogan
@bigbelgianbopper Yes, I created it. It’s CC-0 from my side. No credits needed. If yo DM me an email address, I will send you the SVG with all characters converted to paths.
Non algorithms, no masters.
@jwildeboer
@oldperl No matter what I say, there will always be an immediate "Yes, but" and it will most likely be a German guy ;) I am not forcing anyone to agree. You can use it or ignore it. That's also a fundamental part of the Fediverse. Diversity in opinions. So here is a positive alternative, although I think it has far less impact :)
@jwildeboer
That wasnt a "Yes, but", it's just a feeling when reading your words. And it's just another opinion, anybody is free to say in the fediverse. My english is not good enough to tell what i think.
And yes, i'm german, but I am also a European and I am just as much a citizen of the world, and I wish for a peaceful future for all people.
@oldperl You connected revolution to violence, resistance, war or fighting. I think that revolution, in its original sense of abrupt change in a social order can be done without violence. That organisation is at the core of change. And that decentralised organisation is our best bet.
@jwildeboer I mean, I don't think mastodon is immune from influence campaigns at all. If it ever got massively popular there would be all sorts of spooky psyop stuff.
@upmultimedia "All this has happened before. All this will happen again." — Battlestar Galactica [1]
We have seen people try to do it. We see it happening as we speak. The Fediverse has a good immune system to defederate those that try. It is not perfect and it will never be. But at least we have no centralised point that can dictate what we see. Every Fedinaut has the power to block, mute and ignore. And the power to boost what is important.
@upmultimedia But no matter how hard they would try, the would never be able to cease full control - because of the distributed nature.
Mastodon admins would get a more challenging (interesting?) task, to ban and block instances known to be less trustworthy. But they also already do that today.
Individuals running campaigns will equally be ignored as well, and they won't get any help from any algorithms. And if they are somewhat successful, the Mastadon admins have the power to block it.
The difference between the centralised and the federated universes is that no single entity can manage to gain full control. And that is truly deliberating.
@dazo Another important point is cost. Trying to manipulate a decentralised system is far more expensive than to do it on a centralised system. Driving up the cost of abuse is our best bet against authoritarian forces. They need centralisation 😊 @upmultimedia
@jwildeboer back to the slogan: did you create this? For I am interested to put this on a T-shirt if the image is cc. Or buy a T-shirt with the image on it :)
