Electre Selecteh 2 is here, and I wonder where all this is going. This is a lunar selection of new social electronic music handpicked for you. Enjoy and see you again at the end.

Club Music

Club Music, an EP by raybies. #NoisePop ▶️ Listen on Subvert.

Raybies says:

Fans of the 2005 web browser game, Club Penguin, should recognize the instrumentals featured on this EP. However, I’ve ruined them with clip distortion and embarrassingly personal lyrics. These songs are pure nostalgia for me. Lyrics detailing experiences from pre-teenhood, samples from my favorite video games, and references to books I read. Even if you don’t get my references, I hope you can enjoy these goofy tunes, or maybe even relate to them.
As far as what I did to transform the tracks, the first step was chopping the tracks up and rearranging them. I then used a lot of different effects. Distortion, bit-crushers, filters, reverb, step modulators, etc. I also added many samples from other places, like on "average experience of a 13 y/o" there's a sample from the game Overwatch (another very nostalgic game for me). Along with the vocals, I also recorded some instruments. Off the top of my head I know there's guitar on "A.I. GF" that is me, as well as some bass and synth on other tracks.
Thank you for listening!

Club Music feels like an early demo of a future renowned musician. raybies sounds like doing whatever she wants, and it's contagious. I love the huge contrast between the vocals and melody beyond distortion in A.I. GF, and the rather clean sound with just some reverb in Fated to Explode. And the voice range and volume. And how naturally these songs flow. And the lyrics. And this. And that.

Amusing Ourselves To Death

Amusing Ourselves To Death, an album by See How. #UKGarage #House ▶️ Listen on Subvert.

See How says:

I wanted the album to feel like it was made by someone still figuring it out, not someone with the answers. Every track is trying to interrupt the loop for a second. That's the whole idea behind the title: how we distract ourselves from the things that matter, and what happens when distraction becomes the default.
Digital overload, climate anxiety and the belief systems we create to make sense of both sit beneath the surface. The record isn't intended as a manifesto or a set of answers. Instead, it captures the feeling of trying to stay present in a world that makes that increasingly difficult.
I produced the album with my laptop and Logic Pro. And I just want to say a big thank you to Electre Selecteh for the support 🙌

I love electronic music that makes me dance but I am avoiding more and more the kind of music designed to make me not-think, forget. This album however makes me dance but keeping a connection to the ground and to our world in the sorry state it is. Dancing with hope (even if it's to death) with message, hard to resist groove, and top sound.

Written in Rust

Written in Rust, an album by monoloalia. #Darkwave #ElectroIndustrial ▶️ Listen on Mirlo.

I make moody, layered, explorable electronic darkwave with some electro-industrial grit, a certain playfulness, organic vaguely guitarish basslines, old-timey radio/movie/TV samples, and sparse “real” vocals.

monolalia defines their music as "explorable" and that nails it. This album is a solid piece of electronica work. It has character, a thread that goes beyond a simple addition of tracks, and the sound of experience. It's paused, it's tense, it's dark, it's also smooth, and those human voices. That beauty rust has.

Find

Find, an album by Synaptyx. #Electronica #DarkAmbient ▶️ Listen on Subvert.

Fascinated by sounds of nature, of machinery, and ambient sound that surrounds everyday life, my music is influenced by natural and man-made worlds, often incorporates field recordings not to mention synthesisers of all eras analogue and digital, software and hardware.

Looping is easy, but it takes some depth to loop during almost 15 minutes without boring the audience, thanks to sufficient rhythm nuances, pulsation, and morphing. I'm surprised how many times I have listened to Cherenkov Blue without getting tired of it (for those who haven't checked it, it's 14:45 and quite repetitive in a good way). "Find" offers music to surrender your rush and puts yourself at a long range pace.

Introspective Dance Music for a Lazy Afternoon

Introspective Dance Music for a Lazy Afternoon, and album by Semiosis in the Sun. #Industrial #Experimental #Gabber ▶️ Listen on Subvert.

Experimental electronic music project exploring sonic aesthetics inspired by living between Lebanon and The Netherlands, reshaped by the study of intersectional and decolonial philosophical texts.

Such a great title and I fell for it! The album starts lazy indeed, and introspective too, with the darkest kicks and snares one can get. A variety of rhythms with Middle Eastern notes, very good, still dark. Spoiler, it will be dark till the end, but double spoiler, the tracks speed up and... am I dancing gabber now? How did this happen? Character.

I Just Wanted to Be Younger! But Now I'm Fighting for My Life Against a Problematic Authority Figure by Yara Zoë. #Drum&Bass #Synthwave ▶️ Subvert
Actual video game music! Indie squared. Soundtracks are not supposed to stand on their own but this one does it quite well and it will lighten your day. Plus two singles.

Cyberdemon by DEMON GRRL. #Soundtrack #Synthwave ▶️ Subvert
This album feels like watching a slightly dark & neon film that only exists in CYBERDEMON's mind. Overall calm but with some underlying tension and unrest.

SSDD by MINIMIS. #Techno ▶️ Subvert
Techno! By someone who knows the chops. Possible backing track for our times, with hard sound and titles like black gold, Refinery, and War Path.

To the Nines Remixed by socool & co. #Downtempo #Drum&Bass ▶️ Mirlo - Subvert
socool and nine friends (CommsBreakdown, AxWax, Lehto, Paul Griffin, Sweet Dreams Music Technology, Undercat, Default Media Transmitter, Ordos Mk.0, C.Circo) have achieved an elegant collaboration with a consistent collection of remixes that stay true and bring their own. Easier said than done!

Power, Vol. 1 by Hannah Baumstark. #IndiePop #Ballad #FutureGarage ▶️ Subvert
I was quickly scanning music almost mechanically and... a singing voice made me stop. A human story with human contradictions. A powerful performance about feeling powerless.
