there are places - certain urban areas - that i frequent, and which feel so different now to how i remember them upon first being there. and not just that the feeling is different, but that they give an overall impression now of an entirely different place; the place i remember is no more, even if i am actually standing there. some of this is of course because these places change over time, but familiarity seems to have a much stronger effect. on first visit these places are labryinthian and mysterious, and i must take in the whole thing holistically as anything could be a point of interest. familiarity gives everything meaning, it places things in physical context with eachother and defines what i pay attention to and what i ignore.
a similar effect has happened everywhere i've lived, but there the familiarity is far more tangible, metaphorical or literal grooves worn into carpet as i have settled in to the place. curiously, it is only in these places that i have occasionally found, just for a few moments, that i am able to re-experience what it was like to be there for the first time. a certain smell, or i look at things just right, and it is if the place is still empty and i haven't moved in.

What do the fascists have to do to prove they are actual, legitimate, "we will kill anyone who opposes us" fascists?
Because they sure have been killing a lot of people.
And they keep saying that they want to kill more.
It's so fucking wild to be sitting here with people still unsure if things have gone far enough or gotten bad enough.
Have you forgotten how this year started? With mass abductions? With government agents executing people in the streets?
At what point do we acknowledge what's actually happening? Do we ever? Or does "too far" just keep moving a little further away so that we never get there?
Un hiver à Majorque

Carl's Doomsday Scenario
Join Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, as they fight fantastical creatures and deadly mobs to make it to the next level and build the kind of fan following the dungeon masters can’t ignore in the second book in the smash-hit Dungeon Crawler Carl series—now with bonus material exclusive to this print edition.
“Greetings, Crawlers! The training levels have concluded. Now the games may truly begin.”
The aliens have come, and they’ve transformed Earth into a multilevel, video game–like dungeon. It’s the newest season of the galaxy’s most watched game show, Dungeon Crawler World. Now on the third floor, Carl and Donut have to fight harder than ever. They’ve already proven that a Coast Guard vet and once-and-forever feline royalty are an almost unstoppable team. Their ratings are off the charts. Viewers can’t get enough. But the dungeon gets more dangerous each day, and now there’s a whole new problem to deal with: Quests.
They call it the Over City. A sprawling, once-thriving metropolis devastated by a mysterious calamity. But these streets are far from abandoned. An undead circus trawls the ruins. Murdered women rain from the sky. An ancient spell is finally ready to reveal its dark purpose. Can Carl and Donut solve the mystery in time?
And can Carl finally find some pants?

Obfuscation
a user's guide for privacy and protest
With Obfuscation, Finn Brunton and Helen Nissenbaum mean to start a revolution. They are calling us not to the barricades but to our computers, offering us ways to fight today's pervasive digital surveillance -- the collection of our data by governments, corporations, advertisers, and hackers. To the toolkit of privacy protecting techniques and projects, they propose adding obfuscation: the deliberate use of ambiguous, confusing, or misleading information to interfere with surveillance and data collection projects. Brunton and Nissenbaum provide tools and a rationale for evasion, noncompliance, refusal, even sabotage -- especially for average users, those of us not in a position to opt out or exert control over data about ourselves. Obfuscation will teach users to push back, software developers to keep their user data safe, and policy makers to gather data without misusing it. --Publisher

Drakula
Abokatu britainiar gazte bat, Jonathan Harker, Transilvania urrunera bidaian doa, hango bezero misteriotsu batek deiturik, Londresen etxe bat erosi nahi duela-eta. Karpato mendi malkartsuetako gaztelu batean ezagutuko du Drakula kondea, eta, hortik aurrera, era guztietako emozioak piztuko dituen abentura-sorta abiatuko da pertsonaia gogoangarrien talde baten eskutik, tartean direla Mina Murray ausarta eta Van Helsing doktore bitxia. Terrorezko klasiko handi bat da eleberri hau, banpiroen istoriorik ezagunena, mila bertsio, komiki eta filmen oinarri izan dena eta guztion iruditeria kolektiboan leku nabarmena duena. Literatura gotikoaren elementu guztiak xurgatu eta ustiatzeaz gain, Ingalaterra viktoriarraren ifrentzua ere eskaintzen digu baina: bizimodu zurrunaren ihes-balbula, emakume berriaren aurreko lilura eta beldurra, errepresio sexualaren kontrako perbertsio-festa. Baita, gutxitan aipatu arren, umore etengabea darion kontakizuna ere. Hona, beraz, Ana Moralesen hitzaurre, ohar eta itzulpenaz, literatura unibertsaleko maisulan bat, irakurleari dar-dar eta kar-kar eragingo diona.
